Ethernet as a Metro Transport is poised to
fill the gaps in Service Provider's portfolios that access technologies
currently available are unable to provide. Metro Ethernet presents a particularly
attractive solution of those Service Providers that are seeking to enter
new markets quickly with low initial capital investment. Now that Service
Providers' transition to IP-based Networks is nearly complete, the race
is on to provide IP-Based Transport Solutions to leverage the investment
that has already been put in place. At the same time, Subscribers continue
to demand more and more bandwidth and value-added services.
The latest product offering from Teleware Network Systems is targeted directly
at the requirements of today's Service Providers, while not compromising
the cost realities that all IT managers face in today's New Economy. The
Teleway-5800 Chassis-based Layer 2 / Layer 3 / Layer 4 Metro Ethernet Switch
delivers a cost-effective, high-performance solution for Service Providers
in their efforts to service the SME (Small Medium-sized Enterprises), MTU/MDU/MHU
(Multi-Tenant/Dwelling/Hospitality Units) and Large Corporate Customers.
The Teleway-5800 is a Chassis-based switch that has a fixed configuration
of 6 Expansion Slots, plus dual power supplies. The Teleway-5800 can be
configured to support up to 24 ports of varying speeds and interfaces, from
10/100BaseTX up to Gigabit Ethernet and beyond. The Teleway-5800 can support
up to 17 different types of uplink modules, covering speeds of 10/100/1000
Mbps over distances from 500 meters to 40 Km and connection protocols ranging
from UTP Cable to SC, LC (Fiber Optic) to GBIC. Because of this wide-ranging
support of speeds/interfaces, the Teleway-5800 is the flagship product of
the Teleware Network Systems Metro Ethernet Switch Product Line and can
be implemented into ANY Service Provider Network seamlessly and effortlessly.
Beyond the physical benefits of multiple Expansion Slots and wide-ranging
speed + interface support, the major benefit in choosing the Teleway-5800
lies in its general operation and high-speed, high-quality switching and
routing support. The Intel-based architecture, along with the IBM On-Board
Processor, guarantees not only Wirespeed Layer 2 Switching, but Wirespeed
Layer 3 and Layer 4 Routing as well. In addition, the Linux-based open architecture
ensures that the cost of the Teleway-5800 is well within the budget of any
IT manager.
Like all other switch products in the Teleware Network Systems Product Line,
the Teleway-5800 comes with all of the 1st Class Management features that
Teleware customers have grown accustomed to, including, SNMP v1/v2c, CLI,
Telnet and Web-based Management. In addition, features such as IGMP and
IEEE 802.1q Tag-Based VLANs allow for higher performing Video-On-Demand
Applications and the ability to logically allocate and secure different
workgroups over any individual network. The most important to Service Providers
though may be the support of Port-Based Rate Limiting, which allows Service
Providers to logically dictate the amount of bandwidth that any single Customer
may receive at any time.
There is no doubt that Large, Metro-Scale Ethernet transport is gaining
momentum as the technology matures and new standards appear. You can be
secure in the knowledge that when you are working with Metro Ethernet switch
products from Teleware Network Systems, you are working in technology that
is based on not only an IEEE Standard, but one of the most robust technologies
that the Telecom Industry has ever produced.
With Teleware Network Systems, you get the best of everything: Standards-based,
Industry approved products plus the quick time to market and high quality
products that we have come to be known for.
